VIGBODY HL-5230 Home Spin Bike

as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

Up first in our indoor cycle review and comparison in Australia is the VIGBODY HL-5230 Indoor Spin Bike. This bike offers a great workout experience inside the household thanks to its magnetic resistance system and stable construction. It features a more minimalist design than many older spin bikes, coming with a lighter weight, yet solid weight bearing capacity. The resistance can be changed with a simple twist of the knob. Because the resistance is magnetic, this also means that it gives a quieter experience to the user and those around them.

The adjustability of the HL-5230 should definitely be praised, as both the seat and handlebars can be adjusted vertically around four inches each. The seat can also be adjusted horizontally. This allows for a wider range of cyclists to fit comfortably, which is always a good thing. There’s also a small, multi-functional LCD monitor. This screen doesn’t do too much out of the ordinary, but does allow for the tracking of your time, speed, distance, calories burned and other basic statistics that you’d find on any gym bike. There’s also a nice little tablet/phone holder that allows you to keep entertained while you exercise. A slight downside to the HL-5230 is the pedals. They have an unfortunate tendency to come loose, which means you should make sure that they are secure before starting any workout.

Additional Information:

This bike weighs 54 lbs (24.5 kg) and has a max user weight of 330 lbs (150 kg). Its dimensions are 44.5 inches (113 cm) long, 19.7 inches (50 cm) wide and 43.3 inches (110 cm) tall. It comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

5Expert Score
Verdict

The HL-5230 offers a solid, quiet ride for anyone seeking to cycle at home. It gives a monitor that tracks stats and allows for a wide range of people to use it thanks to its adjustability and weight limit. For $370, this certainly is one of the best spin bikes to buy in Australia. The issue with the pedals is most certainly a downside and people should be aware of it.

Scenic SPX200 Magnetic Spin Bike

as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

Known as one of the top home spin bikes in Australia, the Norflex SPX200 Spin Bike is up next in our list. This bike is of a commercial quality build and will most certainly allow anyone to start their journey to the top of the cycling chain. It has a 13 kg iron cast flywheel and automotive grade belt drive system which delivers plenty of resistance thanks to the adjustable control knob. The 4 inch LCD screen that comes with the bike delivers the time, speed, distance, pulse and calories burned all in one spot. Again, nothing spectacular, but certainly useful. The added iPod/iPhone holder right underneath the monitor allows for entertainment alongside the statistics.

The seat of the SPX200 is adjustable, but isn’t that great. It’ll do, but it isn’t exactly a luxury seat. Conversely, the handlebars are a rather nice surprise in that they are highly adjustable and comfortable. Because the bike is powered by a friction drive system, this does mean that it will take more maintenance over time compared to a system that uses magnetic resistance. There’s also a pair of wheels that allow for easy transportation around the home. One of the issues someone might take with this magnetic spin bike in Australia is the price. For a cost of $800, there doesn’t appear to be a ton of features here that you wouldn’t be able to find on a cheaper bike.

Additional Information:

The SPX200 weighs about 62 lbs (28 kg) and has a max user weight of 330 lbs (150 kg). Its dimensions are 40 inches (101 cm) long, 19 inches (48.5 cm) wide and can be between 41-46 inches (106-116 cm) tall. We were unable to find any sort of warranty or guarantee that comes with this spin bike.

5Expert Score
Verdict

An extremely solid spin bike that delivers a good LCD monitor, adjustable handlebars, and an excellent system of resistance. You’ll be sure to get a good workout on this bike. The added iPhone holder is also a nice touch. However, we couldn’t find any warranty, which is not a great sign. For $800, you’d also expect some sort of feature(s) that would set it above the rest, and those are lacking.

MEVEM Magnetic Indoor Cycling Bike

 in stock
Amazon.com.au
as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

Coming in third on our list of the best spin bikes in Australia is the MEVEM Indoor Cycling Bike. This bike provides a nice, easy experience at home that allows anyone to hop on and get cycling. It has a magnetic resistance system and belt drive in order to give you the sort of workout needed. There’s a relatively light flywheel that comes with this bike, weighing about 18 lbs (8 kg). In fact, the smaller size and space that this bike takes up is a theme of it. If you want a smaller bike that also remains pretty quiet, this is a good bike to start looking at.

This is another bike with a monitor that will serve as a basic function. As with the previous bikes, it tracks your speed, time, distance and calories burned. Once again, there is a phone holder that allows for entertainment while you ride. However, this time there is also a water bottle holder included with the bike. It’s always good to have some hydration during a workout! The biggest issue that people will find with this bike is the size. While being compact is a bonus for some people, those who are taller than 6 feet or above 280 lbs will find themselves a bit cramped and uncomfortable on here. For anyone under that height or weight, they can pick up this spinning cycle in Australia for a reasonable $602.

Additional Information:

This bike weighs about 66 lbs (30 kg) and has a relatively low max user weight of 280 lbs (127 kg). Its dimensions are 40 inches (101.6 cm) long, 9 inches (23 cm) wide and 35 inches (89 cm) tall. The bike comes with a 1 year warranty and a 30 days full refund period.

4Expert Score
Verdict

A magnetic resistance bike that will provide a solid workout for anyone who falls in the desired height and weight range. It provides a good LCD monitor, water bottle holder and a phone holder for entertainment. The compact size can also benefit those living in small apartments. Although, the fact that the bike is so small and benefits those who are physically smaller means that the potential group who can use this bike to the fullest potential is smaller. That’s always a negative in our opinion.

Body-Rider BCY6000 Indoor Bike

as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

Halfway through our list is the Body-Rider BCY6000. This spin bike has a similar build to the high-quality Keiser M3i, using a V-shaped frame and lighter flywheel as core elements. Since it has a low center of gravity, it has a great sense of stability during the workout session. The seat of the bike is adjustable vertically and horizontally, while the handlebars are only adjustable vertically. These handlebars also have pulse sensors on the grips, which is a nice touch. For those who like their bikes to be mobile, the BCY6000 has a couple of wheels on the front that combine with the light weight in order to make it extremely easy to slide around the home.

The BCY6000 is a magnetic resistance machine with 8 different levels of resistance. With this system comes a poly-v, heavy duty belt. This transmission makes it so that you don’t have to lubricate that bit of the bike, like you would if it were a chain. The monitor that comes with the indoor spin bike is extremely basic. It has an LCD display that isn’t backlit, displaying time, distance, speed, calories, and pulse. Not to mention that it is battery operated. You can only see one metric at any given time, switching between them with the large, red button on the console. The only negatives here are that the pedals are not SPD-compatible and that there’s no water bottle holder. For a price of $462, this spin cycle in Australia offers plenty to enjoy.

Additional Information:

The Body-Rider BCY6000 weighs 77 lbs (35 kg) and has a max user weight of 300 lbs (136 kg). Its dimensions are 35 inches (89 cm) long, 21 inches (53 cm) wide and 45 inches (114 cm) tall. This indoor cycling bike in Australia comes with a 1 year warranty on the frame and a 90 day warranty on the parts.

4Expert Score
Verdict

For a decent price, this stationary bike in Australia offers a stable and quiet ride. The console does a decent job of displaying the stats, but the real benefits are found in the actual exercise abilities of this bike. With that said, the console isn’t backlit, there’s no water bottle holder and the pedals aren’t SPD-compatible. None are deal-breakers, but you should be aware of them.

Fangda Exercise Indoor Cycling Bike

as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

Up next is the indoor cycling bike from Fangda. This spin cycle bike in Australia is a very solid choice for anyone who is looking to get into the world of indoor cycling. It is made with a high quality steel beam, offering a more stable and steady ride for whoever decides to hop on and go for a ride on here. It has a 6 kg flywheel, which combines with belt drive system and magnetic brakes to give an overall sturdy experience. The seat is ergonomically designed and provides a decently comfortable experience while riding. It’s not the most comfortable out there, but it’ll do the job.

The pedals on the bike have toe cages on them, which means that your feet will most certainly not be slipping out anytime soon. For those who like to be entertained while exercising, there is a magnetic phone holder. We’re not really sure why it needs to be magnetic or any sort of “sticky”, as the phone would just stay in place anyway. It’s not like the bike is rocking around.

Additional Information:

This cycling spin bike in Australia weighs 68 lbs (31 kg) and has a max user weight of 330 lbs (150 kg). Its dimensions are 42 inches (106 cm) long, 23.6 inches (60 cm) wide and (120 cm) tall. We were unable to find any sort of warranty available for the product.

4Expert Score
Verdict

This spinning bike in Australia delivers a solid and sturdy cycling experience. Your feet won’t slip out thanks to the toe cages and the adjustable seat is comfortable enough for longer rides. Although, the fact that we couldn’t find any sort of warranty is certainly a concern. It’s also rather difficult to locate a stable price attached to this stationary spin bike in Australia.

ProFlex SPN750 II Spinning Bike

 in stock
Amazon.com.au
as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

The ProFlex SPN750 II is a pretty solid spin bike overall, with many features that cycling fans will enjoy. One of the most noticeable parts about this spin bike for home in Australia compared to many of the others on this list is the console. Whereas the others just track your statistics, this one allows you to set and execute targeted goals related to time, distance, speed, pulse rate and calories. You also have the ability to control the resistance (friction) of the flywheel, allowing you to create your own workout intensity. The belt drive system that comes with the SPN750 II allows for these more intense workouts to remain smooth and quiet.

As for the actual build of the bike, it is designed with comfort in mind. The seat, seatpost and handlebars are all adjustable in order to allow for all different types of cyclists to enjoy the benefits on offer here. The seat itself is extra thick and padded. It is comfortable, however, it can also feel too padded at times. Especially only the longer rides. The pedals have similar toe cages in order to allow the feet to remain secure and stable during the workout. A nice little addition is the phone holder, allowing for entertainment while you go through even the longest and most intense exercise sessions. A downside to the build is that the build is very light. That means that it shakes quite a lot during the ride.

Additional Information:

The ProFlex SPN750 II weighs 72 lbs (33 kg) and has a max user weight of 265 lbs (120 kg). Its dimensions are 47 inches (120 cm) long, 19 inches (49 cm) wide and 45.6 inches (116 cm) tall. It comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

4Expert Score
Verdict

A fairly advanced console in this price range is always a nice addition. The fact that the bike is made to be comfortable is also quite a boost. Toss in the phone holder for entertainment and you’ve got a solid deal. However, the lack of weight on this spinning exercise bike in Australia can really be felt. At the higher intensity levels, it shakes and shakes like it’s being rocked by a hurricane. The seat can also be somewhat too puffy on the longer rides. The most important drawback of this indoor bike is the friction resistance (not magnetic).

TRYA Indoor Cycling Exercise Bike

 out of stock
Amazon.com.au
as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

Nearing the end of our list, we have the TRYA Spin Bike. This is a big and heavy bike, making certain that it avoids one of the problems on the ProFlex SPN750 II. It also has a chain drive, which is relatively rare to see on the modern spin bike. One might think that this leads to loud workouts, but that isn’t actually the case. Yes, it’s louder than a magnetic resistance system with a belt drive, but it’s not as loud as you might otherwise think. However, because of this chain drive, you will need to check it more often in order to avoid the deterioration that often comes with these types of drives. The seat of this bike is adjustable horizontally and vertically, while the handlebars are only adjustable vertically. The saddle itself is padded and relatively comfortable, but as with other saddles on this list, it becomes significantly less comfortable on those longer rides.

The unit comes with a LCD monitor for your speed, distance traveled and calories burned. The standard mix, but it will do. Beside the monitor is a holder for an iPad or other tablet, allowing for some more entertainment while you ride. For a price of $566, this is a bike that will serve just about anyone and get them into some fine shape. All in all, it’s a good indoor bike to purchase in Australia.

Additional Information:

This spin bike weighs 71 lbs (32 kg) and has a max user weight of 330 lbs (150 kg). Its dimensions are 39.4 inches (100 cm) long, 21 inches (53.3 cm) wide and 43 inches (109 cm) tall. It comes with a 1 year warranty on the parts.

4Expert Score
Verdict

This big and sturdy bike will not shake you, even with the most intense workouts. The tablet mount is nice for those looking to be entertained while they workout. The flywheel itself offers a large degree of resistance. The adjustability of the handlebars and seats are most certainly appreciated. Note that the weight is both a positive and negative, as it makes it difficult to move around often. The LCD screen is extremely basic, though it will do the job. The chain drive mechanism will require more maintenance and make more noise than a belt drive would have.

Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1203 Cycle

 in stock
Amazon.com.au
as of September 23, 2023 12:55 pm

We round out our list with the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1203. A mouthful, but certainly not a bad bike. This is an entry level spin bike that will serve as a solid piece of exercise equipment for anyone who wants it. It has a heavy steel frame with a 22 lb flywheel, keeping it grounded even on the more intense workouts. The official weight of 61 lbs actually seems wrong when compared to what the bike feels like. The seat is adjustable both vertically and horizontally. Though it has to be said that the seat isn’t exactly comfortable. Setting up your own seat might be the better move here. The handlebars, on the other hand, are fine. However, they are not adjustable. This does mean that the group of users that can comfortably use this bike does shrink. As it turns out, those who are above 5’10” might generally find themselves to be more uncomfortable on this bike.

The SF-B1203 comes with a display that will show the distance, time, speed and calories burnt. This is pretty nice, as bikes in this price range rarely come with a monitor. When they do, they also tend to be either useless or last for a month before never turning on again. Fortunately, that’s not the case here. There are issues reported about this home cycling bike in Australia regarding certain aspects arriving broken or becoming broken soon after use. This is why you should carefully monitor the bike in case you have to make use of the warranty with it. Also, keep in mind that you might need to get a spin bike floor mat to protect your flooring.

Additional Information:

The SF-B1203 weighs 61 lbs (28 kg) and has a max user weight of 220 lbs (100 kg). Its dimensions are 45 inches (114 cm) tall, 22 inches (56 cm) wide and 32 inches (81 cm) long. It comes with a 3 year warranty on the frame and 180 day warranty on the other parts and components.

4Expert Score
Verdict

It is a relatively sturdy bike that comes for quite a cheap price. The fact that it comes with a console at the price is definitely a pro. A long warranty is also appreciated. However, the general feel of the SF-B1203 can be uncomfortable for a decent amount of people. The fact that reports have been coming out that parts are often found breaking is also not a great look. Also, this spin bike uses the felt pad (friction) resistance system which not as smooth and quiet as magnetic spin bikes

Buyer’s Guide

Right then, that wraps up our list of the best spin bikes in Australia. Now we’re going to look at some of the aspects that you should keep an eye out for when hunting for your own spin bike in AU.

The type of resistance. Many of the top spin bikes now use a magnetic resistance system in order to provide the degrees of resistance needed for higher-tier workouts. However, some still use friction resistance, which deteriorates more quickly and requires more maintenance.

The price. These are all relatively cheap bikes, so their value should be measured based on how many features they deliver and how good those features are.

The adjustability. The more people that can comfortably fit on the bike or make it conform to them, the better. Many of these seats are adjustable both vertically and horizontally, however not all handlebars are. Keep this in mind when measuring how it might fit your body shape.

The weight and height capacity. In a similar vein, it’s important to keep in mind just how these limits can affect who can use these affordable indoor bikes in Australia. Some of these weight limits are rather low, so those who are looking to lose a lot of weight should keep that in mind.

The monitors. Since most of these bikes are cheaper, the monitors tend to be nothing more than a display of statistics. However, if you find a different one or one that does offer Bluetooth connections and separate challenges, know that this is a definite bonus.

The warranty. It is always good to keep in mind the warranty that comes with the bike. Nobody wants the bike to break a year after they buy it, only to find out that the warranty lasted three months. Checking the reviews to see what the warranty is and how good the customer service is can really pay off in the long run.

Should You Use a Spin bike Whose User Weight Capacity is Incompatible with Your Weight?

Is it Appropriate to Ride a Spin Bike after a Meal?

It is generally not advised to perform intensive exercises immediately after a meal. You should wait 2-4 hours after a heavy meal and 30minutes-2 hours for snacks and light meals.

What Muscles Does a Spin Bike Target?

It works the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, calves, while the back and upper body muscles provide support for the torso during workouts while being toned and strengthened.

Are spin Bikes Easy to Maintain?

Exercises to Stay Fit Without Using a Spin Bike

exercise-to-stay-fit-at-home

We all know that staying fit is important, but during a quarantine, it can be difficult to maintain your normal workout routine. The following article will provide you with six different ways to stay physically active indoors during the pandemic.

Pushups

Pushups are an excellent upper body exercise that can be performed in almost any location. If you have a hard floor, it is best to lay down some thick padding such as towels or mats to protect your hands and wrists from injury.

Sit-Ups

It is important to train your core muscles during quarantines because they help you maintain balance and stability. Sit-ups are an easy exercise to perform in your home, office, or hotel room during a quarantine.

Plank Exercises

A plank is like a pushup position for your core muscles instead of the arms. Planks work all four layers of abdominal muscle groups which can be hard to train during quarantine in times of emergency.

Jumping Jacks

When pushups and sit-ups feel too easy, then try jumping jacks to add some variety into your workout routine. Jumping jacks are an excellent cardio exercise that can be performed anywhere indoors or outdoors when it is safe to do so. You can also perform them in a group to have some fun and increase the intensity of your workout.

Squats

For those who would rather stay closer to the ground, squats are an excellent alternative for building strength during quarantines. Squat exercises strengthen all four muscle groups of the lower body as well as helping with balance and stability. With a squat, you can perform it with your legs together or splayed out to the sides.

Lounges

Lounges are an excellent exercise to train the leg muscles. They can be performed indoors or outdoors, but make sure you are not near any hazardous objects that could become loose and dangerous during your workout routine. You can do them either forwards or reverses to hit different muscle groups.

Crunches

Crunches are an excellent way to strengthen your abdominals which also decreases the risk of back pain and injury. They can be performed on a mat or towel as you lay down with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, but make sure you do not pull any muscles during this exercise by using too much resistance for your body weight.

Shadow Boxing

Shadow boxing is an excellent way to increase your punching and kicking strength. You can also do it in a group setting if you are near other people indoors who are able to perform this exercise with you. It helps strengthen all four muscle groups of the lower body as well as core muscles, shoulders, back, and arms for increased flexibility during quarantines as you don’t need to go outside to perform this exercise.

Dancing

Dancing is an excellent way to increase your cardiovascular health as well as strengthening the muscles of your legs, hips, lower back, abs and core. You can take online aerobics classes or perform free-style dances at home with music that you enjoy during a quarantine. It also helps strengthen coordination skills and balance for those who may be confined indoors due to the Covid-19 quarantine.

Rowing and Cycling Indoors

Rowing machines can be an excellent way of staying in shape, after all, they use 85% of your body muscles which is above most other exercise equipment you can indoors. Indoor bikes aka spin bikes are also great way to stay fit and healthy and they take space than rowing machines and elliptical machines.

Running or Walking on a Treadmill

Using treadmill machines for exercise is an excellent way to increase your cardiovascular health as well as strengthening the muscles of your legs, hips, lower back, abs and core. You can do them indoors on any level surface with a treadmill machine. It also helps strengthen coordination skills and balance for those who may be confined indoors due to the pandemic.

Pull Ups

Pull ups are an excellent way to strengthen your upper body muscles including biceps, triceps, core and back. Pulling up exercises work on increasing the strength of these muscle groups. This exercise can be performed anywhere there is a pull up bar. They can be purchased online for only a few dollars which is great for any person on a budget.

Dumbells

Dumbbells are an excellent tool for performing arm exercises indoors during a quarantine. They come in several weight options, so you can determine how much resistance is right for your fitness level. Some of the dumbbell exercises you can do are:

  • Bicep Curls – This exercise strengthens the biceps muscles in your arms.
  • Tricep Extensions – This exercise works on strengthening the triceps muscle group. Triceps are located in the back of your arms.
  • Chest Press – This exercise strengthens the pectoralis major muscle group which is located on top of your chest near your shoulder blades. It also helps strengthen and tone several other muscles groups such as the shoulders, upper back, and core muscles.
  • Shoulder Presses – Shoulder presses work all three shoulder girdle groups as well as traps and deltoids. They help to strengthen both upper body and core muscles simultaneously for a great all-around workout.
  • Windmills with Dumbbells – Windmills are an excellent way to strengthen your core muscles. They also help improve flexibility and balance for a full-body workout routine you can perform indoors during quarantine.
  • Lateral Raises – Lateral raises work on strengthening the shoulder muscles known as deltoids. They also help tone and strengthen the core, back, and chest muscles for a complete upper body workout you can do indoors when it is unsafe to go outside during a pandemic quarantine.

You can perform any of these exercises for a quick workout or in sets to build endurance and strength and gain many more exercise benefits. This is an excellent way to stay fit during quarantines so you can be ready when it is safe enough to return to your normal routine when quarantine ends. If you have the space and can afford, as always, I would highly recommend investing in a good home gym machine for strength workout plus an exercise bike (can be recumbent, upright, or spin bike) for cardio workout.
