Octane Fitness Standing Elliptical XT4700 Review (Updated in 2021)

Octane XT4700 Overview

If you are looking to furnish your gym or fitness facility with a superior quality elliptical trainer, you may want to consider Octane fitness’ XT4700 cross-trainer. The Octane XT4700 elliptical cross trainer is a powerful and commercial grade-elliptical for fitness facilities. It is the improved version of the Pro 4700 with a better monitor and overall look specifically built to withstand the rigorous nature of the club environment. It is fitted with a reinforced frame, a quiet motor, ball bearing linkage system, and pedal bumpers. As such, it can tolerate extreme “use” and “abuse.” Having undergone quality and reliability testing, the XT4700 elliptical trainer meets the highest performance standards; thus, it is easy to own and maintain.

The XT4700 elliptical trainer is a gem among Octane’s award-winning standing commercial elliptical trainers. The series, which is made up of six exceptional elliptical machines, including the XT4700 cross trainer, is a force to be reckoned with. The other five elliptical machines are; Lateral X, XT-one, XT3700, Pro3700 Classic, and Pro 310. These machines bear similar features and characteristics, with only a few differences setting them apart. For instance, all but the XT-one elliptical trainer lack an adjustable incline, while the Lateral X is the only elliptical with a lateral width design. The XT4700 is a step-up version of its predecessor, the XT3700. It is a stride ahead of the latter with a more extensive stride length that electronically adjusts from 20 to 28 inches. While it is equipped with fingertip controls on the handlebars, the XT3700 is not.

Of course, the XT4700 elliptical machine is outfitted with Octane’s patented innovations; zero-impact configuration, smart stride technology, Cross circuit training, and converging and multi-grip handlebars ─ these are remarkable features that are exclusive to Octane Fitness’ elliptical trainers. Made to provide quality performance, the XT4700 is brimming with functional features that include 30 resistance settings to regulate workout intensity, a rich platter of workout programs, and specialized fitness boosters; Armblaster and Glutekicker. With smart stride technology, users can benefit from a natural and comfortable gait while keeping an eye on their stride performance. Also, exercise and performance data are displayed on either the smart or the standard console. Read this XT4700 review to learn more about its features and workings.

Tired of elliptical trainers with a limited weight capacity? The XT4700 elliptical is here to change the narrative. With a 400Ibs maximum weight limit, this incredible elliptical machine is beyond weight-friendly. Exercisers with a heavy BMI will find the XT4700 comfortable and convenient to use. This specification is particularly beneficial for weight loss programs. Considering the sturdy frame and quality build, it stands to reason that the substantial maximum weight limit is anything but a “gimmick.”

Considerably shorter than most high-end elliptical machines and treadmills, the XT4700 elliptical trainer can fit just about anywhere in your gym or health club. Its footprint is an average of 33 inches (84 cm) in width and 77 inches (190 cm) in length. When in use, the footprint is still compact at 37 inches (94 cm) in width and 87 inches (221 cm) in length. With a low step-up height and rear access, your clients or club members can get on and off the machine in an instant. The ceiling clearance is about 8 inches higher than your tallest user so that the XT4700 can occupy areas with low ceilings.

While the XT4700 is a heavy machine; weighing about 364Ibs (165kg), transport wheels are integrated into its front base to simplify relocation and movement ─ the wheels eliminate about a quarter of the machine’s overall weight when you use them, sparing your back and hands some pain. When it comes to its power requirements, Octane gives you two options that are dependent on your console choice. To put it simply, the smart console works with a power source while the standard console uses batteries. It is also worth mentioning that the XT4700 elliptical trainer does not fold up to conserve storage space.

Performance metrics are displayed on a choice of two consoles; a standard and a smart console. The standard console simultaneously reveals essential performance data on a large LED with integrated capacitive buttons. Different icons on the console signify time, calorie consumption, distance, speed, smart stride, stride length, ANT+, heart rate, heart rate percentage, resistance level, and workout boosters. It is also programmed with 17 workout options to boost performance. And here is the best part, most of the standard features and controls of the console unit can be customized to meet your health-club preferences.

Ramp up your workout sessions with the upgraded 10-inch touch screen smart console! Compared to the standard console, the smart console has better features and more entertainment options. It is loaded with 20 result-driven workout programs. With a button’s push, users can access the internet, train via video coaching, browse web applications, and stream videos online. The smart console also supports Octane’s legendary Cross Circuit program that combines cardio interval with cross training. Exercisers can watch video demonstrations that detail the correct execution of hundreds of strength training exercises. Other advanced programs on the XT4700 smart console include 30:30 interval and the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) programs.

Fitness boosters, X-mode, and Armblaster, can be integrated with other programs to enhance performance quality on both consoles. The workout boosters aid cross training by providing quick, high-intensity interval bursts targeted at specific body parts. For instance, X-mode places users in a squat position (and other positions) while permitting fast pedaling. This way, users can do more challenging workouts that are geared toward improved results. Further to this, the two consoles feature telemetric function and USB device charging capability.

The elliptical path of the XT4700 elliptical trainer takes its cue from precise human biomechanics; hence it delivers a super comfortable natural movement and flow that allows both backward and forward motions with minimal stress on the body joints. In simple terms, individuals with mobility-limiting injuries can comfortably use the XT4700 elliptical trainer. How impressive! However, it lacks an incline ramp or deck ─ Except you prefer an incline for uphill movement, the zero-gravity motion more than makes up for the incline-deficiency.

The XT4700 Stride length can be adjusted from 20 to 28 inches to fit different users in your fitness facility comfortably. The smart stride technology automatically adjusts the stride length to replicate outdoor walking, jogging, and running. Shorter strides from the stride scale equate to walking, while longer strides translate to running. This makes for premium comfort and workout variety. You can control the stride length from the console or through the fingertip sensors on the moving handlebars. On the console, press the stride buttons (+) and (-) to increase and decrease the stride’s length.

With 30 resistance levels, users can get the most out of their workout. This means that the XT4700 elliptical machine is suitable for high-intensity or resistance workouts that target fat loss, flexibility, and calorie depletion. The resistance can be modified via the console or web applications. Users can alternate between high-intensity and low-intensity workouts with a click of a button; the level (+) and (-) buttons increases and decrease resistance according to user preference. You can even customize the resistance to suit certain workout conditions. For example, the resistance can be modified to target your desired heart rate for heart-rate controlled programs. You can also save “changes in target heart rate” by clicking on the enter key.

It is hard to ignore the one-of-a-kind upper body ergonomics that is featured on the XT4700 elliptical trainer. The exclusive converging path and multi-grip handlebars are built to fully engage the upper body, ensuring all the muscles in your upper region are properly worked. Users can change grips with the multi-grip handlebars and focus on the muscles concentrated on the back, chest, and arms.

The XT4700 multi-grip handlebars have in-built contact heart rate sensors and fingertip controls. The pulse sensors accurately capture heart rate statistics, which is crucial to cardio exercises. It can also work in sync with a wireless heart rate transmitter that is compatible with ANT+ and polar. On the other hand, the fingertip controls allow users to adjust the stride and resistance of the XT4700 without using the console. And because the converging path handlebars replicate the arms’ natural motion, it is extremely comfortable to use.

The XT4700 pedals are an important part of the Smart Stride ergonomics, otherwise known as the “zero impact motion.” The pedal articulation features a narrow spacing that provides proper body alignment, minimizing stress on the lower back. The XT4700 elliptical trainer also entertains reverse pedaling (exercisers can walk backward). This poses a healthy challenge to the upper and lower body muscles. Sidestep platforms are also included as an optional accessory to aid quick access and dislodgement from the pedals. Furthermore, the XT4700 pedals are set on a durable ball-bearing linkage system, which adds to its stability and durability.

The Octane XT4700 comes with a media shelf that secures mobile and electronic devices. Users can place their phones and other devices for safety and convenience. It is also equipped with an easy-to-reach water bottle holder, so exercisers can quench their thirst without breaking stride. For individuals who love to read, the reading rack is a delightful accessory. They can comfortably read their favorite books or articles while they workout.

Other optional accessories include an add-on TV, an audio transmitter, and a cross circuit kit. You can attach the personal viewing screen (PVS) and the 900 MHz wireless receiver to the console. The PVS, which is a 15.6 inches touch screen LG TV with integrated keypad controls, offers a wide selection of TV channels and movies. The receiver is compatible with BroadcastVision, MYE Entertainment, Cardio Theater, and a host of others. The Cross Circuit kit contains mounted weight stands, sidestep platforms, and 32 pounds adjustable PowerBlock weights. The kit takes the Cross Circuit training to the next level and maximizes performance results. The side step platforms supplement upper body training; users can step off the moving foot pedals and use the mobile handlebars only.

The XT4700 assembly entails attaching several parts to the already assembled base. Quite frankly, there is a bit of “attaching” to be done. You will have to attach the Pedal Lever to the 3-pivot link positioned on the trainer base. The mast, battery, moving handlebars, covers, and accessory tray need to be attached to the base. Also, the console has to be separately assembled and fixed to the base. And when all is done, you will have to level the machine. It goes without saying that this will take some time and considering the machine’s weight ─ two “hands “are better than one!

With the XT4700 elliptical trainer, you will get a fairly reasonable limited commercial warranty that covers; three-year warranty for the parts, a lifetime for the frame, and a year for labor. The machine is deemed free of defects in artistry and material, from the point of production up until delivery. The XT4700 is warranted from the original day of purchase to the specified warranty period. As part of the Warranty terms, the XT4700 warranty has to be registered to be considered “applicable.” This means that the warranty is as good as “void” if it isn’t registered.

To register the warranty, complete and return the attached warranty registration card to the company. Alternatively, you can visit the Octane website at www.octanefitness.com to register the warranty. Note that the warranty is not applicable if used for consumer purposes (as home or home gym equipment). Octane only recognizes the commercial application of this product. Also, the warranty is strictly restricted to the buyer and cannot be transferred. To garner more information about the XT4700 warranty, place a toll-free call to Octane’s customer service unit at 800-726-9662. The price of the Octane XT4700 differs based on retail outlets, choice of console, and the inclusion of optional accessories. It sells for around; $4,988 with the standard console and about $7,898 with the smart console. The cross circuit with side step platforms retails for around $1495, the side step platforms alone costs about $296, while the optional entertainment kit costs about $1000. Again, pricing varies across different fitness retail outlets. However, you can request a quote for the XT4700 elliptical machine on the Octane Fitness website at www.octanefitness.com. Currently, Octane only ships its products to the 50 U.S states. You will get an email with detailed delivery and shipping information within 24 hours of placing your order. Hi, my name is Sayed Hamed Hosseiny. I am a professional health and fitness trainer with nearly 20 years of experience using ellipticals, rowing machines, and spin bikes. I also have my own EU-based Rock Fitness Pro fitness brand where I design, import and sell exercise equipment such as rowing machines and spin bikes. I and writers on my team also often receive fitness equipment to review and evaluate their functionalities and performance from tens of different exercise machines manufacturers. Fitness equipment tips, guides, reviews, and comparisons on this website are my opinion (and opinions of my fitness expert colleagues) based on tens of criteria. I never accept payment to write reviews of products or say positive things about fitness equipment products. If brands are interested to have me review their rowers, ellipticals, or spin bikes, they can get in touch with me via email provided on the contact page and send a sample of their product.
