Octane Fitness Standing Elliptical Q35 Review (Updated in 2021)

Octane Standing Elliptical Q35 Overview

Octane Q35 Overview

The Octane Q35 elliptical machine is easily one of the most affordable elliptical among the company’s line-up of standing elliptical machines. A branded innovative elliptical with a quality reputation to boot, the Q35 pave the way for Octane’s patented body-mapping ergonomics and Quadlink drive– for the most natural, extremely smooth, and most comfortable body-cum-machine motion. Comfort is also assured with the close pedal design that prevents the hips and back from bearing the brunt of pedaling force. Crafted to closely resemble a commercial-grade machine, you won’t miss the gym in a long time to come.

This groundbreaking trainer embodies everything we’ve come to expect from Octane. From build quality to superior ergonomics through unbeatable value — it has it all. It is the first of Octane’s three traditional ellipticals to make a grand entrance. However, it is a little below-par compared to its successors; the Q37 and Q47 ellipticals. Unlike its sister-models, it is devoid of Octane’s revolutionary converging path handlebars and comes with a single choice basic console that is a little less than average — it lacks wireless heart rate transmission and app connectivity. Otherwise, it delivers the same feel and function as the other two.

The Q35x elliptical cross trainer is the end – product of top-notch features and resources that makes working out at home a thrilling and goal-oriented experience. Top of the list is the 8 pre-set workout programs, including Octane’s trademark workout boosters, X-mode, ArmBlaster, GluteKicker, and cross circuit training. These collectively work to ramp up your workout and to propel you towards your fitness goals faster than you can blink. Combined with 20 resistance levels, a low step-up height, and handy accessories, your workouts will be better than ever. Check out our detailed Q35 elliptical machine review for all the “scoop.”

OCTANE FITNESS Q35 REVIEW AND SPECS:

At first glance, the Q35x may appear large and chunky, but in reality, it is a portable machine. Its compact footprint in an active area measures 26″ × 76″ (66 × 193 cm) — this makes it smaller than most ellipticals across the fitness market. So, if you have a space challenge, this is the elliptical machine for you. And there’s more — it will pose no problems with your ceiling, many thanks to its low step-up height.

The Q35x home elliptical has one of the lowest step-on heights there is. At just 4″ (10.2 cm) high, you can get on and off the trainer in a jiffy, hence making it super convenient to work out on. The low step-up height also translates to a favorable ceiling requirement; It is the perfect pick for apartments or houses with low ceilings. But as a precaution, the company prescribes a standard 8″ minimum ceiling requirement for the Q35 elliptical. Simply put, if the tallest user in your home is 6 feet tall, your ceiling should be at least 6 foot 8 inches. Considering that most homes or basements with low ceilings measure around 7 feet, the Q35 home elliptical is a good fit.

If you are wondering about the “modus operandi,” if you may, the Q35 is not battery enabled. It requires power connectivity to work. On the upside, the cords are mostly hidden beneath the roomy base, so they are not littered or messy. As far as stability and durability are concerned, the Q35X trainer does not disappoint. It is a heavy-duty machine in every sense of the word. It is engineered with premium quality steel with precise craftmanship for longevity. Being sturdy and stable, it can safely accommodate users that are around the 300 Ibs weight mark without suffering consequences. You can also move the elliptical from one point to another with the aid of its transport wheels.

OCTANE Q35X ELLIPTICAL MONITOR

In contrast to higher-end elliptical machines on the market, the Q35 x is paired with a single standard console. The trainer features a large red dot-matrix display screen that provides easy-to-read feedback on essential workout data; time, total calories, distance covered, speed (RPM), heart rate, and resistance level. The console displays your heart rate via the pulse sensors on the handlebar. This avails you the opportunity to be in sync with your workout so you can gauge your performance and adjust where necessary. Topped with a quick start button, you can easily alternate workouts.

In addition to this, the Q35 elliptical offers 8 pre-set customizable and adjustable goal workout programs (10k, half-marathon, 350/750 calorie blasts) to keep you motivated and on track. These programs spice up your workout and offer just the challenge you need to kick your performance into overdrive. To supplement this, Octane includes three workout boosters, X-Mode, ArmBlaster, GluteKicker. These boosters are the perfect “recipe” for interval training; you can effectively burn a ton of calories and build your muscles by utilizing them.

The cross-circuit training and mom mode safety take center stage. Cross circuit is the surefire way to incorporate cross-training into your workout regimen. With this feature, you can alternate between machine-based cardio intervals and off-the-elliptical strength training. For good measure, a number of powerband attachments are featured at the base of the machine to maximize strength training. If you have adventurous kids that are bound to play around the elliptical, the Q35’s mom mode button will render the trainer inaccessible to your kids — When you activate this button, it disables the pedals by increasing the resistance so the machine won’t work.

Q35X STRIDE AND INCLINE

The Q35x elliptical trainer features a 20.5 inch (52 cm) fixed stride length. The stride is neither adjustable nor motorized. The elliptical path is not incline integrated too. While an incline might not be a necessary feature, it is an important criterion for some fitness enthusiasts. That being said, this is a minus for the Q35x elliptical. Notwithstanding, the stride length is quite sufficient for even the tallest users. However, this may not be the case with petite users as the stride might be too long for comfort. Fortunately, the pedal positioning comes to the rescue — you can extend or narrow your legs from the pedal to attain a more comfortable fit.

Another plus point for the Q35 home elliptical is the extremely smooth stride motion. For a machine that is designed to mimic real human body motion, you wouldn’t expect anything less than a natural and comfortable stride — using this elliptical is as good as taking a walk, running, or jogging outdoors. This unique ergonomic construction is also the key to the machine’s low-impact designation; It relieves stress from strain-prone body joints that tend to ache following elliptical exercises.

Most shoppers prefer an elliptical with a quiet mechanism and an extensive range of resistance. And you guessed right; the Q35x delivers on both counts. It works with a console-controlled magnetic resistance, a belt-drive, and a heavy flywheel to deliver a fluid and quiet motion. Users are provided with 20 resistance levels to choose from. You can decrease or increase the resistance by clicking on the button tagged “Level” with up and down arrows —on the console. The resistance varies between light, mid-range, and intense to suit different body training exercises.

HANDLEBAR AND PEDALS

Upper body training is a top priority for the Q35 X elliptical cross trainer. This is corroborated by the structure of its handlebars. The elliptical features two sets of handlebars; a standard, single-grip moving handlebar, and a stationary handlebar. The arm bars are structured with a low pivot point to enable unrestricted use of the upper body and for an extensive range of motion— which aids faster caloric burn. This forward-thinking design ensures you optimize your upper body to the fullest as opposed to simply swinging your arms along the course of the ride.

Furthermore, the fluid motion of the upper body complements that of the lower body (enhanced by the stride) to duplicate genuine human movements such as walking, running, and jogging. The collaboration of the smooth, upper, and lower body motion produces inimitable comfort that spreads across all parts of the body. And the cherry on top? You can track your heart rate directly from the palm of your hands — simply grip onto the pulse sensors on the stationary handlebars. It is no wonder the Q35x is an all-time favorite. The only fly in the ointment is its lack of multi-grip positions and converging path orientation.

Like with most Octane ellipticals, the Q35 x trainer features a minimal 1.8″ spacing between the pedals. The narrow Q-factor in combination with the elongated stride and low step-on height, allows for an ergonomically approved posture and body alignment that is particularly focused on the hips and back. The pedals are also cushioned to minimize the risk of injury – protects your skin from cuts and bumps or from becoming sore. Additionally, the track of the Q35x elliptical machine is powered by dual wheels that are covered with shields. This is more durable and works more smoothly compared to the single wheels found on conventional elliptical machines.

ACCESSORIES AND ASSEMBLY

Additional elliptical accessories may be considered “frills,” but they actually make working out a lot easier and more productive; yes, optimum comfort equals maximum productivity! The Q35 x elliptical machine has its fair share of accessories. This includes a media shelf, reading rack, a water bottle holder, powerband anchor points, and an Mp3 port (although mp3s are so nineties, most people don’t use them anymore). You can keep your mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets in the media rack for safekeeping and to enjoy workout videos or other forms of entertainment when exercising.

You are wont to get thirsty while working out, and getting off the machine to get water can be an inconvenience. Fortunately, the Q35 x takes this into consideration and provides a water bottle holder for your convenience. To take cross-training to the next level, Octane adds anchor points for resistance bands. However, these bands are not included, and you will have to buy them separately, and seeing as the machine itself is on the pricey side — this poses a financial inconvenience. You can also fix optional stationary platforms to the frame.

The Q35 x assembly is a bit complicated and can be quiet a chore. To be frank, there is a lot to be assembled. The console, mast boot, arms, top covers, and access panel needs to be fixed to the frame. The pedal lever also has to be attached to the 3-pivot link. When all is done, and in place, you will still need to adjust and tighten the levelers. Thankfully, the instruction manual is precise and detailed, which makes the process easier for you. Plus, you will need help (at least one more person) to set up the machine. You will also need #2 Phillip screwdrivers and a wrench for the set-up.

WARRANTY, PRICE, AND SHIPPING

The Q35x elliptical comes with a limited consumer/home use warranty. The frame of the Q35 x elliptical cross trainer is warranted for life – can you beat this? The parts are guaranteed for three years, while labor gets 365 days. Now, this is quite generous. With a warranty like this, you are assured the Q35 x will retain its value for a long time. However, this warranty needs to be registered before it is activated. But not to worry, registration is as easy as drinking water. A warranty registration card is included with the purchase. So, all you need to do is to fill in the required details and return the completed card to Octane fitness. Easy peasy, right?

But if you prefer the online medium, you can complete the card on Octane’s website at www.octanefitness.com. And this warranty is also transferable; you can extend this warranty to any person of your choosing by completing Octane’s warranty transfer card. If you should have any questions, issues, or inquiries, you can call the company’s customer support center (toll-free) on 800-726-9662. You can also reach them via this email; customerservice@octanefitness.com.

At $2199, the Q35x elliptical machine is Octane’s most economical standing elliptical machine. Although it is quite pricey compared to cheaper models, it offers good value for the money. The Q35 x cross trainer can be shipped to your location post online purchase, as long as you reside within the 50 states of the U. S —The company only ships to the aforementioned states. Residents in Alaska and Hawaii attract a quote for freight and installation. The Q35x weighs 210 Ibs while the box dimensions are 70″ × 30″ × 31″. This means it is relatively heavy, and you are better off setting it up at where you intend to use it. Also, two or more people are recommended for the unloading and assembly.

FINAL VERDICT

Comfort and state of the art technology are the hallmarks of an exceptional elliptical machine, and the Q35x elliptical machine undoubtedly meets these criteria. The Octane Q35x elliptical machine is an exceptional trainer that offers high-quality workout options for novice and advanced users alike. It is a compact yet sturdy machine that is structured to withstand corrosion and prolonged use. It is also convenient for people that weigh up to 300 Ibs — anything more, and the machine or the user will suffer. Though the Q35 x is a valuable machine, it lacks some handy features that should come with the heavy price; some cheaper elliptical machines on the market have some of these features that it lacks. While it is more affordable than Octane’s other two standing ellipticals, you should bear in mind that you will be missing out on a smart console, multi-grip handlebars, an adjustable stride, cross circuit bands, and Octane’s signature Smartlink app. So, if you want an elliptical machine that offers all of these and more but at a higher price, you should consider Octane’s Q37 and Q47 elliptical models. All-in-all, the Q35 elliptical cross trainer is a worthy investment that is guaranteed to yield excellent value for money.
